Three Steps to Effective Writing

Written Expression is a three step combination of auditory and visual skills that requires the participation of a writer and a receiver.

It is the job of the writer to use words in a way that describes an idea so that the receiver can picture the meaning of those words.

While it seems to be an easy assignment, your child may not know how to get started because the three steps need organization, planning, and mental imagery combined with the vocabulary to describe the images, the understanding of how to make transitions between thoughts, and the ability to clearly express the ‘point’ of the information.

Hardy Writing Toolkit breaks down the three steps of writing for your child and teaches how to combine them to express an idea clearly.

Step #1: Picture an idea
Step #2: Find words to describe the idea
Step #3: Structure those words in a way that creates a picture for the reader

The formula for successful writing is P + DW + S = Clarity

Picture + Descriptive Words + Structure = Clarity
